Where an unrepentant geek talks about Battlestar Galactica & Life • Est. 2009

For about four years, I’ve been looking for a watch to buy, nothing special really, but just something that “fit” me, and I came up with absolutely nothing. I looked at all kinds but not one appealed to me enough to spend money on it.

Then I found one with a Battlestar Galactica connection and it became an instant “must have.”

I found a website that identified one of the prop watches on the show as the Nixon Scout (note the logo on the wristband), so I looked it up at Nixon’s site and found The Scout. I ordered it even though I’m not a huge fan of Lee Adama/Apollo — I like Papadama– and I have to say I love it. It’s a nice, heavy watch, well-made and with the BSG tie-in, I’m finally a happy camper.

On another note, the same site indicated that the watch used by the pilots when in flightsuit is a modified version of the Nixon watch called The Dork. I may have get one of these one day, too.

Just because I’m an unrepentant geek.

I have always liked the classic Converse basketball shoes, popularly referred to as “Chucks.”

Despite that affection, though, I’ve never owned a pair — other brands (Nike, Puma, etc.) surged to the forefront of the athletic shoe market when I started playing basketball in junior high school — until now.

I was inspired after seeing a picture of Battlestar Galactica’s Edward James Olmos (pictured, top right) wearing a pair, in an awesome Kelly green, and just had to have a pair.

Since I’ve been pretty much trapped at home with chronic pain, I’ve had my sister checking for a pair in that color and sales whenever she was out and about.

Well, she found one and I now have a pair — yay, for my guessing the right size out of the gate! — and a little something more: a keychain!

Thanks, Crys! You rock! And so do my “Eddies!”

Hungry for Chinese food tonight, my sister and I ordered out and it netted me the most awesome fortune cookie ever.

Take a look:

I just have two questions:

  • How did they know?
  • Can I pick the alien?
